Principal’s Message

The end of the third grading period is almost here! Our testing season is about to begin and we are planning to finish a great school year. It has been my and Mrs. Van Hook’s pleasure to serve the students, staff and community of Highland City Elementary. We appreciate your support and dedication to your child’s education.

Our testing schedule is contained in this newsletter. Be sure to check it out and prepare with your student for these very important tests. Our kindergarten through second-grade students will cheer our older students on through their testing season! Please remember that it is extremely important for your child to be in school each day. Also, remember campus supervision is from 7:30-3:15. Please do not drop your student off prior to 7:30 a.m. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us by phone or email.

News Release: Polk County Schools

School Volunteer Background Check Fees to Increase Nov. 1

Starting Nov. 1, 2018, the price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks will increase from $25 to $40. To coincide with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, we’re tightening security measures to protect our students, faculty and staff. The increased price for background checks will include: a national background check, Social Security number verification, address verification, multiple name/alias check and terror watch list check.

Volunteers are required to reapply and renew their background check every five years from the date of their application approval.

As a benefit of the new system coming in November, volunteers will be able to apply and make payments online, and the application process will be faster and more efficient.

For now, those wishing to become an approved volunteer should visit www.polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved, print an application, fill it out, and submit it to the school where you would like to volunteer.
