Principal’s Message

The Holiday season is here and this is a wonderful time to reflect on the growth that your child has made in school. In order to continue their progress, it is important for your child to read daily. If you have internet access, please have your child login to iStation at home for extra practice. If you still need login information, please contact your child’s teacher.

We are excited about our AR challenge this year. Please ensure your child reads their AR books to prepare for their AR tests. We have a school-wide goal of 10,000 points. Each time your child tests, they earn points towards their goal and our school goal. Remember, readers are leaders! It is encouraging seeing so many student leaders in the office with Gold Tickets and Positive Referrals. Our students are model citizens, and we are very proud of them. It is an honor to serve as the Principal of Highland City Elementary. Please call, email or come see me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful holiday season and thank you for sharing your child with us.

Ms. Weingarth

News Release: Polk County Schools

School Volunteer Background Check Fees to Increase Nov. 1

Starting Nov. 1, 2018, the price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks will increase from $25 to $40. To coincide with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, we’re tightening security measures to protect our students, faculty and staff. The increased price for background checks will include: a national background check, Social Security number verification, address verification, multiple name/alias check and terror watch list check.

Volunteers are required to reapply and renew their background check every five years from the date of their application approval.

As a benefit of the new system coming in November, volunteers will be able to apply and make payments online, and the application process will be faster and more efficient.

For now, those wishing to become an approved volunteer should visit www.polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved, print an application, fill it out, and submit it to the school where you would like to volunteer.
