Principal’s Message

The beginning of our school year has been wonderful! As our school year moves along, please remember to read with your student every day. This one thing can greatly improve your student’s reading success! We are happy to include multiple incentives for our students who reach their personal Accelerated Reader goal. If you do not know your child’s AR goal for the nine weeks, please ask your child’s teacher. We have a school-wide goal of 35,000 AR points for the school year. Ask your child what will take place if we reach this goal! I look forward to seeing how many students will each their goals.

News Release: Polk County Schools

School Volunteer Background Check Fees to Increase Nov. 1

Starting Nov. 1, 2018, the price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks will increase from $25 to $40. To coincide with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, we’re tightening security measures to protect our students, faculty and staff. The increased price for background checks will include: a national background check, Social Security number verification, address verification, multiple name/alias check and terror watch list check.

Volunteers are required to reapply and renew their background check every five years from the date of their application approval.

As a benefit of the new system coming in November, volunteers will be able to apply and make payments online, and the application process will be faster and more efficient.

For now, those wishing to become an approved volunteer should visit www.polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved, print an application, fill it out, and submit it to the school where you would like to volunteer.
