Home of the Green Hornets!
Welcome to Highland City Elementary School – the “Best Kept Secret” in the Highlands of Lakeland! We envision our school to be a place where students, parents, staff and our community work together as a team to support a safe and positive learning environment which fosters students’ academic excellence, nurtures creativity, and develops responsible citizens.
Sanford Harmony at Home!
To make this time as easy as possible for your family, Sanford Programs is pleased to provide our Harmony at Home toolkit to ensure that children continue to have high-quality learning experiences outside the classroom. Harmony at Home provides a variety of lessons, activities, and resources to help you navigate the social and emotional needs of children during this difficult time.
We encourage families to establish Harmony Goals and use Meet Up and Buddy Up activities, and we will show you how. Harmony at Home includes easy instructions and meaningful opportunities for your family to connect, express feelings, and solve problems together.
Family Cyber Safety Toolkit
Parents and caregivers — with your child home from school, they’re likely on some form of digital device more than usual…but did you know? 1 in 5 children who touch a digital device will be sexually solicited online.
I hope you had a wonderful winter break and a Happy New Year! It continues to be a privilege to serve as the Principal at Highland City Elementary. Your children are doing a fantastic job learning their Florida Standards. A huge shout-out to our wonderful HCE teachers. Our teachers certainly are top notch as they continue to work with the students to meet the Florida Standards. FSA testing dates are located in our newsletter, so please make sure you mark those dates on your calendar. Our 3rd-5th grade students will take these assessments. It is extremely important that your child is at school daily and on time to ensure they receive direct instruction from their teachers each and every school day. Thank you for sharing your child with us each day. We appreciate your continued support.
News Release: Polk County Schools
School Volunteer Background Check Fees to Increase Nov. 1
Starting Nov. 1, 2018, the price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks will increase from $25 to $40. To coincide with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, we’re tightening security measures to protect our students, faculty and staff. The increased price for background checks will include: a national background check, Social Security number verification, address verification, multiple name/alias check and terror watch list check.
Volunteers are required to reapply and renew their background check every five years from the date of their application approval.
As a benefit of the new system coming in November, volunteers will be able to apply and make payments online, and the application process will be faster and more efficient.
For now, those wishing to become an approved volunteer should visit www.polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved, print an application, fill it out, and submit it to the school where you would like to volunteer.
